• Juveniles (Age 0–2): Primarily “pickers.” They focus on small crustaceans (grass shrimp, xanthid crabs) in the mangroves to fuel their rapid growth.

• Sub-Adults (Age 3–5): As they move toward the patch reefs, their diet expands to larger blue crabs and stone crabs, and they begin incorporating “trash” fish and pinfish.

• Adults (Age 6–15): High-level generalists. They target larger crabs and move into active hunting of grunts, ballyhoo, and eels.

• Trophy Class (Age 20+): Specialized Apex Hunters. To maintain a 25–30lb body mass, these fish require a high protein-to-effort ratio. They target calorie-dense prey like large mullet and whole blue crabs.
